Construction Training and Development Specialist I supports the
Project Support Planning Manager in the implementation of the
Project Support Planning business function. The overall business
function is to advise and assist construction teams with the
development and management of budget, schedule, and project
reporting to ensure favorable project outcomes. To that end, the
Construction Training and Development Specialist I facilitates
delivery and design of training programs which are specific to the
needs of the Construction business unit processes and systems. The
focus of this position is facilitation and delivery of program
curriculum for new and existing Construction associates with the
goal of ensuring optimal performance. In addition, the position
demonstrates leadership traits that promote effective teamwork,
positive working relationships with all internal and external
business partners, and understands, embraces and communicates the
values, goals and mission statement of AvalonBay Communities and
the Construction business unit. This position requires thought
partnership and collaboration with the Construction leadership
group, Information Technology, Human Resources and Learning &
Development. The Construction Training and Development Specialist I
is expected to work independently with limited supervision from the
Project Support Planning Manager. This role can be located in any
of our regional offices: Arlington, VA, Boston, MA, Westfield, NJ,
Irvine, CA, Durham, NC, Austin, TX, Denver, CO, Essential Job
Functions: Build Strong Relationships: Collaborates and manages
relationships interdepartmentally as it relates to the roll out of
new initiatives, communication plans, policies, procedures, and
technology improvements impacting New Construction & Capital
Projects. Hands-on Training Specialist: Partners with L&D and
HR to delivers new hire and continuing education training with
emphasis on the Success Profile for the relevant Construction
positions and the associated technology tools, policies and
procedures. Provides additional regional and training support, as
assigned. Onboarding: Leads new hire in training requirements for
role, including systems and non-function specific topics, such as
Workday, I-Beam, Bluebeam, PowerBI, as well as general AVB policies
and procedures. Evaluates and communicates learning progress and
expectations to new hire and their manager during the first 90
days. Continuous Improvement: Introduces and champions new
initiatives and processes that continually improve Construction
performance. Partners with Construction leaders and HR and L&D
partners in curriculum design, delivery, modifications, and
effectiveness. Makes recommendations for ongoing training. Partners
with L&D to evaluate program effectiveness to improve quality
and impact, recommends changes to internal customers, L&D, and
implements them as needed. Customer Support/Quality Assurance:
Communicates with Project Managers/Directors to solicit their
feedback on project support needs, performance and improvements.
Maintains superior current operational knowledge of workflows,
policies, procedures and systems through taking calls, processing
inventory, attending team meetings, side-by-side observations and
conducting quality monitoring. Non-Essential Functions: All other
tasks as assigned by the manager. Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related
field OR equivalent experience Certification or Licensures: None
required. Experience: At least 2-3 years construction management
experience or equivalent Some exposure to designing, developing,
delivering and assessing training material for Construction field
staff. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrates presentation
and facilitation skills and an aptitude for providing training.
Possesses excellent verbal communication skills for training
delivery and exhibits a dynamic and engaging classroom presence.
Understands adult learning style and can develop facilitator guides
and learning resources, as necessary Familiarity with conducting
needs assessments Knowledge of Primavera Unifier, ASTA Power
Project, Bluebeam, and Workday and ability to share that knowledge
with others. Knowledge of budgeting, scheduling, quality policies
and procedures and ability to share that knowledge with others.
Uses resources creatively and adjusts to changes quickly and
professionally. Works independently with minimal supervision, but
also in a team environment when necessary. Reads and writes English
as demonstrated by clear and concise written and verbal
communications. Creates and delivers group presentations on
function-related subject matter and writes reports in a clear,
concise form. Performs basic Microsoft Office applications such as
word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations. Leverages AI to
create training collateral Exhibits time management and
organizational skills. Possesses analytical skills. Demonstrates
teamwork skills as well as excellent consulting skills, (e.g.,
critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, and
influencing). Physical Demands: Normal office environment with
approximately 25-30% travel possible Working Environment: Normal
office environment Training: Satisfactory completion of AVB’s new
hire orientation within 30 days of employment or the first training
session offered after employment. Satisfactory completion of AVB
Standards of Business Conduct training within first 30 days of
