Inpatient Float Pool Team /n The Inpatient Float Pool at UT
Southwestern is a high-impact, system-level nursing team that
ensures safe, responsive, and flexible staffing across both
Clements University Hospital and Zale Lipshy Pavilion. Float Pool
RNs and PCTs are cross-trained to support more than 30 inpatient
units—including multiple critical care areas, med/surg, oncology,
telemetry, progressive care, rehabilitation, and complex specialty
services—adapting in real time to fluctuations in census, acuity,
and staffing demands. /n More than a coverage model, the Float Pool
is a strategic clinical resource that partners with inpatient
leadership, Central Staffing, and Hospital Administration to
sustain safe care delivery and support hospital-wide operations. /n
/n JOB SUMMARY Works under supervision. /n ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS /n
Job Duties/n /n - Performs and accurately documents physical,
psychosocial, and emotional assessments. All assessments take into
consideration age specific criteria (children, adolescents, adults
and older adults). /n - Actively anticipates patient's and/or
patient's family needs and expectations and utilizes these in
conjunction with the assessment to develop an appropriate plan of
care for the patient. Utilizes critical thinking skills in planning
and prioritizing nursing care. Maintains and utilizes competencies
per unit expectation. /n - Identifies and implements appropriate
nursing interventions based on the completed assessment. Completes
accurate and timely documentation of these interventions. Active
coordinator of the interdisciplinary plan of care. Confers with all
members of the health care team in a collaborative fashion, sharing
information and observations of the patient and/or patient's family
in a manner that contributes to optimal patient care. /n -
Appropriately prioritizes nursing interventions based upon
completed assessment. Promptly identifies changes in condition as
evidenced by nursing assessment, labs, x-rays, etc. Reports
changes, takes follow-up action as appropriate. /n - Evaluates
implemented interventions and modifies care according to the
evaluation. Documents interventions and modifications to the plan
of care in an accurate and timely manner. /n - Adheres to
appropriate hospital and/or Department of Nursing policies,
procedures, clinical pathways and nationally accepted standards of
nursing practice while delivering nursing care to patients.
Suggests practices to enhance Nursing care based on current
literature and research. /n - Provides appropriate and timely
answers and/or education to patient's and/or patient's families.
Completes accurate and timely documentation of all education
provided. Obtains feedback/evaluation of understanding from
patient/family, i.e., have we helped you? Patient/family verbalizes
comfort with after discharge care. Demonstrates effective
communication with children, adolescents, adults and older adults.
/n - Welcomes and orients patient/family to the unit. Encourages
patient/family participation in care. Reviews plan of care with
patient/family every shift. Explains special diets, tests,
procedures and medications in easily understood and appropriate
language. Makes frequent rounds on patients, communicates when will
return; patient infrequently needs to use call light. /n /n /n
QUALIFICATIONS /n Education and Experience /n /n Required /n /n /n
- Education Graduate of accredited nursing program. /n /n /n /n /n
- Experience 2 years of critical care nursing experience /n /n /n
/n /n - Licenses and Certifications (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT course
accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red
Cross (ARC) Upon Hire and (ACLS) ADV CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT course
accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red
Cross (ARC) Upon Hire (RN) REGISTERED NURSE Current Texas RN
license Upon Hire or (NLC) NURSING LICENSURE COMPACT-BNE Current
Texas (or BNE Compact State) RN license Upon Hire and (NIHSS) Natl
Inst Health Stroke Scale Certification Upon Hire and (CPI) CRISIS
PREVENTION INSTITUT CER within 180 Days and /n /n /n Preferred /n
/n /n - Experience 3 years of nursing experience in an ICU /n /n /n
/n Knowledge, Skills and Abilities/n /n - Responds to all
reasonable requests in an appropriate and timely manner and
communicates in a concise and positive manner. Consistently
maintains control of feelings, emotions, body language. /n -
Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with University
Medical Center policy. /n - Presents constructive feedback
regarding system or process failures and participates in resolution
in a proactive and positive manner. /n - Duties performed may
include one or more of the following core functions: a) Directly
interacting with or caring for patients; b) Directly interacting
with or caring for human-subjects research participants; c)
Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting
patient records (including patient financial records); or d)
Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting
human-subjects research records. /n /n /n PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING
