Job Description:
The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) is seeking a dedicated
Registered Nurse to join our healthcare team in the National Health
Services Corps. This position plays a crucial role in providing
high-quality medical care to inmates in a controlled, secure
environment. This role is instrumental in assessing patient health
problems and needs, developing and implementing nursing care plans,
and maintaining medical records in accordance with federal and
institutional standards. Provide direct nursing care to inmates as
dictated by the individual needs of each patient. Develop and
implement nursing care plans in adherence with BOP policies.
Administer medications, track vaccinations, and monitor progress of
patients. Educate inmates about various health conditions, and
maintain a compassionate and professional relationship with them.
Ensure compliance with standards of care and legal policies by
following procedures laid out by the federal government. Coordinate
with doctors, therapists, and other medical professionals to manage
treatments and recovery. Prepare reports and present data regarding
inmate's health to the department's management and comply with
legal health requirements. Excellent patient care and clinical
skills. Ability to make decisions in high-pressure situations.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of
emergency care and able to effectively manage unforeseen health
crises. Familiarity with pharmaceuticals and proper administration
techniques. Experience with electronic medical records (EMR)
systems. Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life
Insurance Valid RN license in the state of practice. BLS (Basic
Life Support) Certification required. ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular
Life Support) Certification preferred. CPR certification. Any
additional certifications specific to mental health or correctional
health nursing is highly desirable.
